Waiting for the Health Visitor

I’m sat down for the first time today. I’ve done a million and one jobs and all the time my minds been on the impending visit from the Health Visitor in 20 minutes time… And I’m nervous, but why? In my day job (as a Dads Support Coordinator)  I’m fully aware that Health Visitors don’t get a lot of interaction from dads. The majority of HV visits are in the earlier stage of an infants life and so mostly it’s mum at home or on Mat leave. So I’m feeling a little like I’m the one being assessed. I’m also…

‘How You Doing?’ And Other Questions About Depression

‘How You Doing?’ This is the number one question I get asked when I talk to someone who knows about the recent bout of depression I’ve been battling. Number two is ‘have the meds kicked in yet?’ asked cautiously as they aren’t sure how you’re going to react. And coming in at number three is ‘how can I help?’, which for me has been the hardest question to answer. I’m a couple of months on from being prescribed Fluoxetine for ‘low mood’ I have found myself answering these three questions over and over again. Either by text, Whatsappp or chatting…

A Chimps Tea Party by The Shed of The Father

My grandad had a thing that he stuck to all through his 83 years alive which was that every mouthful had to be chewed forty times. Charlie doubles…

Top 5 Apps For Young Kids

I’m a bit of a techy guy. I love my gadgets, my phone and my tablet. So inevitably my kids have followed suit. My 4 year old son loves his Amazon Kindle Fire and for her second birthday we bought daughter one too. So I’m not here to lecture you on your kids screen time habits. Now you might think we’re crazy for doing this (I sure do), but there is logic to it. She is forever trying to get on his Kindle and more fights break out than a drunk hen night in Newcastle. She is also really good…

DadsApp On Meds

Follow my blog with Bloglovin For the past 2 weeks I’ve decided not to post anything as in all honesty I’m not sure that what I would have shared would have been helpful to anyone, including me. I’m writing this whilst signed off work for stress/depression or the sick note actually says ‘low mood’ but it’s far more than that. I also think each of these labels completely miss the mark of how I’m currently feeling. Forgive me if this post is a bit all over the place as it’s taken a lot for me to actually write this. A…
